ECUADOR & THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS
August 2022
Route through Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands for 2 weeks. The first part of our trip focused on the mainland. The first contact with the country was the beautiful and colonial Quito, where we enjoyed its historic center and surroundings, highlighting above all the Cotopaxi volcano (really impressive) and the Quilotoa Lagoon (inside the crater of a volcano). Next we visited the region of Baños de Agua Santa (3 hours by bus), where we had our first contact with the incredible natural beauty of this country; all full of waterfalls, vegetation and hummingbirds. The third stop was the city of Cuenca, which in my opinion has one of the most spectacular cathedrals I have ever seen, and the Cajas National Park, speechless.
We flew to the Galapagos Islands from Guayaquil, and visited the three largest islands in the archipelago (San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz and Isabela). What we live here I am not able to describe: hammerhead sharks, reef sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, iguanas, thousands of seabirds, giant tortoises; sea lions, etc.
The final icing was the sighting of humpback whales and their calves in Salinas, spectacular.
