GUATEMALA & BELIZE
June 2025
We began our journey in the beautiful city of Antigua, where its colonial charm reveals delightful details around every corner. The Santa Catalina Arch is the most visited spot, but there’s no shortage of picturesque corners, all just steps away from the main square and nestled at the foot of the Agua Volcano. From there, we headed to Chichicastenango, where one of the largest markets in Central America takes place every Sunday. At the heart of the market stands the church of Santo Tomás, a unique place where Christian and Mayan traditions blend. After spending the day there, we made our way to the stunning Lake Atitlán before returning to Antigua.
From Antigua, we set off on our adventure to climb the Acatenango volcano. The hike is incredibly tough — not only does it start at over 2,000 meters of elevation, but you gain another 2,000 meters over just 7 kilometers. Despite the challenge, the trail is truly beautiful. Once you reach base camp, you spend the night there, and at dawn, you make the final push to the summit to watch the sunrise and witness the impressive Fuego volcano erupting roughly every 20 minutes. We weren’t very lucky with the weather — it was cloudy and raining... but at the very last moment, we got to see it!
Our final stop in Guatemala was the Petén region. We spent time on the charming island of Flores — as small as it is colorful — where we enjoyed the peaceful lake atmosphere and delicious local cuisine. From Flores, we visited Tikal National Park, and we were truly amazed by the scale and mystery of this ancient Mayan city.
To wrap up our journey, we headed to Belize. . We traveled by road from Flores to Belize City, where we boarded a ferry that took us to the laid-back island of Caye Caulker. This tiny, colorful caye instantly won us over with its relaxed vibes, crystal-clear waters, and incredible seafood — the ceviches were especially unforgettable. We spent our days enjoying dreamy beaches and exploring the vibrant underwater world, swimming alongside manatees, manta rays, sea turtles, sharks, and through stunning coral reefs. One of the highlights of our time in Belize was taking a scenic flight in a small plane to see the iconic Blue Hole from the air — an awe-inspiring sight that left us speechless. Between the sea, the sky, and the island rhythm, Caye Caulker was the perfect way to end our journey.
