CALIFORNIA

April 2025

California awaited us with the promise of an unforgettable road trip with friends. We landed in Los Angeles, but the true beginning of our adventure was Sequoia National Park. Our first stop, a short hike to Moro Rock, rewarded us with breathtaking views of the park, with areas of forest purposefully burned, reminding us of nature’s powerful and cyclical renewal. Later, standing before the imposing General Sherman — a giant sequoia that, though it might seem just another tree at first glance, holds the title of the largest living being on Earth by volume — we felt tiny, surrounded by giants that seemed to touch the sky.

On our way to Yosemite, we spent the night in Fresno, at a roadside motel straight out of an old movie. The next day, crossing the tunnel that leads into Yosemite Valley, we were left speechless: the landscape that unfolded before us was pure magic. Waterfalls cascading like silver threads, towering trees, and above all, El Capitan — a colossal wall of stone soaring a full kilometer straight into the sky. We spent two incredible days there, deeply connected to nature, with only one small regret: we didn’t spot any bears.

After those days immersed in wild nature, the city was calling. San Francisco welcomed us with its vibrant energy and its unique cultural blend. We explored its parks and scenic viewpoints, climbed and descended its steep streets, savored meals in Chinatown, biked across the Golden Gate Bridge, toured the infamous prison of Alcatraz, and marveled at self-driving cars cruising by as if it were perfectly normal. By the end of our stay, we all agreed on one thing: we could easily see ourselves living there.

From San Francisco, we headed south along the legendary Highway 1. Big Sur gifted us some of the most breathtaking coastal landscapes we had ever seen. We dedicated an entire day to exploring Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, marveling at the rugged cliffs and the powerful roar of the ocean. We also wandered through Carmel-by-the-Sea and Santa Barbara, two charming towns full of magic.

To end our California journey, we gathered for a family barbecue in Santa Clarita, savoring our last moments together. We still found time for a final visit to Los Angeles: walking along the Walk of Fame, feeling the unique vibe of Venice Beach… and promising ourselves that one day, we would return.
